Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese stories of macabre anime reveals more stories, cast

“Ice bus”, “tombs”, “Illusion Library”, “Wallet Sculptures” animated in the anthology

Employees of Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre, a new anime based on various artist’s stories from Junji Ito horror films, revealed a new appearance, new Ito stories that are to be included in the anime, and new cast members on Friday.

New stories announced in anime are “Ice Bus”, “Bohyō no Machi” (“tombs” or literally “city of tombs”), “Zōsho Genei” (“Library of Illusion”) and “Kubi no nai chōkoku” (“headless sculptures”).”Ice Cream Bus” and “Tombs” never officially appeared in English, although VIZ Media licensed for the second for the upcoming TombS collection: Junji Ito Story Collection, which will be sent on March 28, 2023.

Anime will also contain the history of Ito “Where the Sandman Lives”.

Anime will contain 20 stories from ITO achievements, which will be animated “for the first time”.Anime will include, among others, stories from volumes Tom, Sōichi and The Hanging Ballons.

Ito had previously revealed that his Mang Itō Junji Kessaku-Shū collection (Junji Ito Masterworks Collection) has a new anime project.The Manga collection contains some of the more known works of Ito and has a total of 11 volumes, published in 2011-2013.
